Pyrus – Studievereniging Bodem, Water en Atmosfeer

Welcome at Study Association Pyrus. We are the study association for Bsc Soil, Water, Atmosphere and Msc Earth and Environment at Wageningen University.

According to old Greek myths, the Earth exists out of the four basic elements soil, water, air, and fire. Since the study already has much affinity with the elements soil, water and atmosphere, our study association received the name “Pyrus” as a deviation of the Greek word pyr, meaning fire. In this way the association is in perfect harmony.

The association is managed by and for students of the aforementioned studies. Our study association aims to provide our students with opportunities to develop themselves both socially and professionally, and to allow them to make connections with their fellow students or in their future work field. To achieve this, we organize a range of social and professional activities, such as drinks, galas, pub quizzes, and New Year’s dives, as well as career nights, symposiums, and company visits. Finally, we annually organize the Soil Drilling Championships, an event in which up to 1000 people participate in teams to find an answer to the age-old question: “Who can drill an Edelman ground drill into the ground the fastest?”. Pyrus also guarantees the quality of the bachelor and master studies associated with it by evaluating courses and delivering feedback.

Next to these activities, the Pyrus hutch is open every weekday from 12:00 to 14:00. In short: Pyrus just gives that extra element to the study Soil, Water and Atmosphere!
