Bachelor of Science: Soil, Water and Atmosphere
The soil, the water and the atmosphere are everywhere around us. They form the basis for live on earth and are essential for our existence. What is happing exactly in de soil, in the ground- and surface water and in the atmosphere? How can this surrounding be preserved for the future and their generations? In this study you will get answers to all of these questions. You learn about processes and mutual relationships by looking at, using and describing them.
The Bachelor of Science study Soil, Water and Atmosphere is a educational course focussed on the environment. Natural science, chemistry, but also biology, mathematics and geography will be used in this study. Lectures will be the main part of your study, but also computer practical and excursions abroad are part of the study. If you like natural sciences and the environment and you like to travel, Soil, Water and Atmosphere is your thing!
The Master of Science programmes
Master Earth and Environment
Planet Earth is a fascinating and complex system supporting all forms of life. Do you wish to contribute to finding solutions for various issues related to our planet? During the two-year master programme at Wageningen University, you will learn about earth and the environment, meteorology, soil, hydrology and earth science by using tools like physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. You will acquire a quantitative understanding of the composition, structure and processes of the earth and its atmosphere, as well as the impact of human activity. Water scarcity, soil degradation, loss of biodiversity, vulnerability to severe weather and climate change are just a few examples of the major issues that need to be addressed.
The Master Earth and Environment consists of courses, an internship and a research thesis. It is possible to specialise in different fields and thesis research can be done in any one of the following ten Earth and Environment tracks:
Master Geo-information Science
The increasing demand for digital geographical information has resulted in a huge growth in the discipline of Geo-information Science. The demand for geo-information is the result of an increase in environmental problems and the need to manage the natural and the social environment. Would you like to use geo-information in finding solutions for global problems like flooding, planning, or the migration of wild animals? Then the two-year Master programme Geo-information Science at Wageningen University is something for you. It offers a unique blend of geo-information science methods, technologies and applications. The combined use of earth observation techniques (Remote Sensing) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for problem solving within the environmental disciplines is an asset to this programme.
The Master Geo-Information Science programme consists of courses, an internship and a research thesis. As a rapidly growing discipline, Geo-information Science combines expertise from the fields of ICT, geographic information (geo-informatics, geomatics, GIS), remote sensing, photogrammetry, GPS and mapping. And also elements from environmental and social sciences like planning, geography, soil science and communication. You will learn the scientific, technical and organisational aspects of geo-data, remote sensing and geo-information systems and how to use these in an international, scientific and inspiring work environment.
